Tye Dye Cake

Alex graduated preschool and will be headed to kindergarten this fall. I remember the first day of preschool and we were both terrified. Over the last 2 years he has made some really great friends and it will be sad come fall when each of them head to different schools.   I couldnt say no when he asked to throw a little year end bbq complete with a rainbow / tye dye cake

Alex and a couple of his ladies

How to Make a Tye Dye Cake

Prepare WHITE cake mix and seperate the batter into 4-6 smaller bowls

Add a different color of food coloring to each bowl, your little ones will have fun experimenting the different shades they create with each additional drop of coloring

Stir and stir some more

Once you have your desired number of colors you can begin pouring into your cake pan

For a tye dye version pour a little of each color into different parts of the pan overlapping if you can.

You can leave it as is, or in our case we ran our spatula through the batter to mix it up a bit.. oh so pretty

Keep your eyes on the munchkins.. they sometimes think an empty bowl is an invitation to lick them

Bake your cake as per package instructions
Baked and oh so pretty. Such a shame to cover in icing but it turned out to be a sweet surprise when the little ones dug in

The rest of the evening was lots of fun

sparkling apple juice with special cups

Cheers to a great year

Alex and his ladies - what a cute bunch!

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend

  1. The cake looks so cool without icing! Cute pics:)

  2. Thank you! I think it would also be amazing as a cup cake :)
